SwitchBot Weather Station

E-ink is one of the most underappreciated technologies available today. SwitchBot has officially entered this market with the new SwitchBot Weather Station, combining an E-ink screen, iCloud calendar syncing, and Matter-compatible environmental sensors into a single device.

E-Ink Display and Design

The defining feature of the SwitchBot Weather Station is its E-ink display. It delivers a paper-like viewing experience that is easy to read from across the room without feeling like another tablet on a stand. A built-in front light handles darker environments, and the device can be wall-mounted or placed on a counter or table.

The unit ships with a 5000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery that SwitchBot claims will last up to a year on a single charge at its standard 3-hour Wi-Fi auto-refresh rate. A USB-C port is available for continuous power if you prefer faster updates or plan to keep the device on a kitchen counter.

Calendar Support and Customization

Beyond current temperature and a five-day forecast, the Weather Station functions as a smart family calendar. It supports one-way syncing with Google, Microsoft, and Apple calendars — up to five calendars at once — and can display up to 30 events per person each day. The layout is customizable, with six display themes available including Daily Overview, Countdown, and Custom Text.

Apple Home Integration and Scene Buttons

The Weather Station includes built-in temperature and humidity sensors. To use that data for automations inside the Apple Home app, you’ll need to pair the device with a Matter-compatible SwitchBot hub. Once connected, those readings can trigger smart plugs, adjust a smart thermostat, activate a fan, and more.

The device also features two hardware scene buttons for controlling other devices directly. The Matter support is a welcome addition, though it would have been ideal for the Weather Station to function as a hub on its own.

Verdict

The SwitchBot Weather Station makes a compelling case for bringing calendar syncing, local climate data, and smart home controls to a low-power E-ink display. It aims to do a few things well without adding yet another bright screen to your space, and for the most part it delivers on that promise. The SwitchBot Weather Station is available on Amazon.
