Samsung Galaxy S24 in hand

Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program has finally arrived on Amazon, bringing 14 refurbished Galaxy phones across two generations. The list starts at $489 for the Galaxy S24 FE (128GB) and goes as high as $1,029 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra (512GB), giving Amazon customers a wide range of older flagships to choose from.

These aren’t just any refurbished phones. Samsung uses its own 147-point quality test to ensure everything works like new before labeling them as Certified Re-Newed. It’s not just a battery replacement — Samsung also adds a one-year warranty and a new IMEI number. In other words, it’s cheaper than buying a brand-new flagship, yet safer than settling for a second-hand phone.

Buying a refurbished flagship isn’t about choosing the newest or absolute cheapest, however. The 14 Galaxy phones currently listed on Amazon each have their own pros and cons. After going through the list, one model hits the sweet spot in terms of price, features, and software support.

This Is the Phone to Buy

Of the 14 Certified Re-Newed models available, the $549 Galaxy S24 (256GB) is the standout pick. Released in January 2024 as the base model of Samsung’s flagship series, the 256GB variant originally retailed at $859 — making the refurbished model $310 cheaper for the exact same specifications and features. The Galaxy S24 earned praise in its initial review for strong battery life, solid overall performance, and premium build quality.

The Galaxy S24 sits between two other tempting offers on this list. The first is the Galaxy S24 FE, which offers 256GB of storage for $519. For just $30 more, the Galaxy S24 delivers noticeably faster performance with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 over the Galaxy S24 FE’s Exynos 2400e. The Galaxy S24 also features better LTPO display technology, wireless Samsung DeX, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. That said, the Galaxy S24 FE does come with a larger display (6.7 inches versus 6.2 inches) and a bigger battery (4,700mAh versus 4,000mAh), which may matter depending on your priorities.

On the other end, the Galaxy S24 undercuts the $629 Galaxy S25 (256GB). Although the Galaxy S25 carries a newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a more refined physical design, spending an extra $80 is difficult to justify when comparing two refurbished flagships. The Galaxy S25 does offer an additional year of software support, but nearly everything else — display technology, camera setup, battery capacity, and charging speed — is essentially identical to the Galaxy S24. The upgrades are too minor to warrant the higher price.

Choosing Between 128GB and 256GB

While the $519 Galaxy S24 (128GB) is the more budget-friendly choice, spending the extra $30 for the 256GB model goes a long way. You get literally double the storage for a minimal price difference — and given how expensive additional storage can be, whether physical or cloud-based, the upgrade is easy to justify.

The Galaxy S24’s seven-year software support also makes the storage decision more significant. With Android updates running until 2031, having 256GB of storage gives the phone room to grow. Apps are getting larger, and 128GB may become restrictive several years down the road when managing hundreds or thousands of media files.

There is also a performance difference to consider. The 128GB variant of the Galaxy S24 uses UFS 3.1 storage, while the 256GB model steps up to UFS 4.0, which delivers roughly double the data transfer speed. The difference may seem minor at first, but it becomes noticeable when transferring large media files or installing sizeable apps. UFS 4.0 is also more energy-efficient, which can contribute to better battery life over time.

Samsung Certified Re-Newed Offers Great Value

Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program on Amazon makes a compelling case for buying refurbished. With a 147-point inspection, a one-year warranty, and a new IMEI number, these phones carry far fewer risks than typical second-hand purchases. For shoppers looking to get into a Samsung flagship without paying full retail price, the Galaxy S24 (256GB) at $549 represents the best balance of performance, storage, longevity, and cost across the entire lineup.
