According to a new rumor from a tipster on X, OnePlus may not be launching the upcoming OnePlus 16 in India. Instead, the OnePlus 16R will be the brand’s next flagship in the country, followed by new Nord series and N series devices.
In recent years, OnePlus has launched a new flagship number-series device as well as an R-series model, which uses a lesser chipset, fewer cameras, and a large battery. If this rumor pans out, India will miss out on a OnePlus device powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, and will instead receive the 16R, which will presumably use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, if that variant ever appears.
OnePlus 15R
This wouldn’t come as a surprise, given OnePlus’ recent decision to exit the European and North American markets entirely. Skipping the flagship OnePlus 16 in India would be one more step in its apparent strategy to focus primarily on China at the high end. Some past rumors have also suggested the brand could eventually exit the Indian market altogether, though that has not been confirmed in any way.
