Amazon is improving the news app on its Fire TV devices today with free local news in several cities across the U.S.
Starting today, Amazon’s Fire TV news app is adding live and on-demand local news in 12 cities: New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Tampa, Boston, San Francisco, and Seattle. This includes stations like CBSN Chicago, ABC7/WABC-TV in New York, and Kiro7 Seattle.
These channels will be available in addition to the other national news channels that Amazon already includes in its news app, including ABC News Live, CBS News, Reuters, and Cheddar.
Amazon is planning to expand its live and on-demand local news offerings next year, adding support for nearly 90 cities in 2021.
You can often access news channels over the air, but the addition of these local and on-demand news channels to Fire TV could still be useful for many people. Some folks live in an area where they can’t get good reception for over-the-air TV. Plus, Amazon’s news app would be useful for folks who don’t have an over-the-air antenna for their TV but do have a Fire TV device hooked up.
