Motorola ‘nio’ shows its face in newly leaked image

Rumors have suggested that Motorola’s got a new high-end Android phone in the works with a Snapdragon 800-series chip, and today we’re getting our first look at that device.

The device you see above is codenamed “nio”, and as noted by Evan Blass, it’s expected to launch as a Moto G series device. Nio will include a Snapdragon 865 processor, at least 8GB of RAM, 256GB of built-in storage, and a 5000mAh battery, says XDA-Developers. We can also see dual front-facing hole-punch cameras in the upper-left corner of the phone’s display.

On the software side, Motorola is said to be loading Android 11 onto the Nio, and that’ll include the DisplayPort Alternate Mode we heard about yesterday that’ll enable the phone to connect to an external monitor over USB-C.

Details that we’re still missing are the launch date and price for Motorola’s Nio as well as its official name.

Motorola Mobility President Sergio Buniac teased yesterday that 2021 will bring the 10th generation of Moto G phones and that “nothing would make us prouder than bringing 800-series experiences to this family”. Typically Moto G phones are cheaper and use Snapdragon 600 or 400 series chips, but this year it sounds like that’ll change next year. And while it may not use the brand new Snapdragon 888 chip, the Snapdragon 865 is still a very capable processor and could help get the Nio a bit closer in price to the cheaper Moto G phones of the past.
