OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100 will receive only one Android OS update

The new Nord N10 5G and N100 are OnePlus’s most affordable phones yet, with the former offering a low cost entry to 5G and the latter packing a big battery and an even lower price tag. But today a new detail about the N10 5G and N100 has come out that may have some folks rethinking the new OnePlus phones.

OnePlus has revealed to Android Central that both the Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 will receive just one major Android OS update. The phones were announced with Android 10, which means that the only OS update they’ll get is to Android 11.

Here’s OnePlus’s full statement on the matter:

“The Nord N10 5G and N100 will receive one major Android update and a total of two years of security updates. The plan for these two devices aligns with industry standards for smartphones in more affordable price ranges. As always, we will continue listening to feedback from our users and looking for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices.”

This news is disappointing on its own, but it’s even worse when you consider that Android 11 launched two months ago and OnePlus just released the new OnePlus 8T with Android 11 preloaded. The Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 are launching after the 8T but come with Android 10 rather than the new Android 11, and now those Nord phones will only have the Android 11 update to look forward to.

OnePlus has done alright with Android OS upgrades for its flagship phones, and it’s promised Android 11 updates for the OnePlus 6 and 6T that launched in 2018. OnePlus won’t be showing that same level of support to its lower cost Nord N10 5G and Nord N100, though, and those phones getting just one major OS update — an update to an OS that was actually released before the phones — makes them a tough sell.
