I don’t know when we’re going to hear about the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion. I know that it’s going to happen, considering that Naoki Yoshida mentioned it specifically back in July, but the lack of a fan festival this year means that it’s still up in the air about when we’ll get our formal announcement or even when the launch will be aside from “next year.” It seems a given that I will not be sitting in a convention hall and getting the experience of watching the first bits of a new trailer explode on a screen in front of me.
Then again, that’s hardly necessary at this point. There’s no law saying these things have be announced in specific venues, and in some ways having the big announcement coming at the start of an event means the rest of the event is spent coming down from that gigantic burst of news. Sometimes I think it would be kind of nice to just have expansions announced in a more calm and less flashy fashion. So what do you think, readers? What’s your preferred way of learning about a major MMO patch or expansion? Do you want the big event reveal, or is an announcement on the game’s page more than enough for you?
