TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Undead Horde’ – TouchArcade

[ad_1]

The concept behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that just about every Friday afternoon we post the 1 game that came out this week that we assume is worth providing a unique nod to. Now, just before everyone goes more than-pondering this, it does not necessarily imply our Game of the Week choose is the highest scoring game in a critique, the game with the very best graphics, or actually any other quantifiable “best” point. Rather, it is extra just us selecting out the single game out of the week’s releases that we assume is the most noteworthy, surprising, fascinating, or actually any other really hard to describe high-quality that tends to make it worth possessing if you have been just going to choose up 1.

These picks may well be controversial, and that is OK. If you disagree with what we’ve selected, let’s attempt to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why.

Without the need of additional ado…

Undead Horde

I’m a fan of quite a great deal every little thing 10tons has place out more than the years, but I’d say they’re most effectively-recognized for their library of fantastic best-down shooters. That stated, I was excited to see that they have been bringing 1 of their non-shooter games from desktop and console more than to mobile with the release of Undead Horde ($five.99) this week. The premise of Undead Horde is that you are a necromancer who inadvertently gets freed from captivity by a careless chicken, and after cost-free goes on a rampage to make the living spend for getting so… alive, I guess.

The most important gimmick right here is that you are in a position to raise the dead and have them fight alongside you, somewhat comparable to sending troops about in an RTS. I’m not ordinarily a fan of this style of game, but what I delight in about Undead Horde is that it is actually an action RPG very first and foremost with the horde-management stuff only lightly woven in, and for my tastes it is the excellent balance of the two gameplay designs. You can use a couple of commands to direct your horde about, but you cannot just kick back and let them manage all your small business for you. You will will need to get your personal hands dirty and assist with the attacks with your necromancer if you want to be prosperous. The horde handle is not finicky like in comparable games and as an alternative just acts as a complement to the action.

Your necromancer can also recover a ton of diverse weapons and products to equip and use, as effectively as level up and boost a choice of stats. It is all rather light in terms of the RPG mechanics, but it is just sufficient to make the hacking and slashing action really feel extra substantial. An additional neat upgrade path is the potential to unlock a couple of dozen diverse varieties of minions to add to your horde, which you can access anytime you pay a visit to the central hub place that also leads you to the diverse levels in the game. After you are out in the battlefield although, you can also raise the dead foes that are left in your wake to add them to your horde, and it is actually satisfying bringing back a bunch of dead soldiers that you just kicked the snot out of only to have them then get started fighting on your side.

As is the case with a lot of of the games from 10tons, Undead Horde blends with each other many gameplay designs into 1 actually cohesive package, and fills it out with all sorts of enjoyable missions and upgrade paths to hold you playing for a extended time. It is refreshing to have a hack ‘n slash game that requires actual tactic as an alternative of mindless button mashing, and I really like all the dark themes and graphics in Undead Horde. It is enjoyable to be the negative guy! All in a spend-after premium package that is at the moment on sale for its launch, so if something I’ve stated as a result far sounds fascinating to you then do not hesitate to give Undead Horde a shot.
