Sony Interactive Entertainment is creating waves this week for announcing that the upcoming PlayStation five is officially known as, properly, the PlayStation five, and that it releases Vacation 2020, amongst other issues. But in addition to all of the new announcements about stuff like haptic feedback controller technologies, the organization has also clarified a previously revealed aspect of the new console: its ray-tracing help.
Though it was revealed back in April that the PlayStation five would help ray-tracing technologies, specifically how it would go about undertaking that appears to have remained in query a small bit offered that the people creating it have fundamentally refused to speak about it outdoors of really particular situations. The positive aspects of ray-tracing technologies generally boil down to impressive lighting, but it does extend beyond that.
“If you wanted to run tests to see if the player can hear specific audio sources or if the enemies can hear the players’ footsteps, ray tracing is helpful for that,” method architect Mark Cerny had told Wired back in April. “It is all the identical point as taking a ray by way of the atmosphere.”

At the time, it was reported that the PlayStation five would featured a custom version of Radeon’s Navi GPUs, and that it would “help” ray tracing. This appears to have brought on some confusion as to regardless of whether it was application or hardware help, but it turns out that it really is the latter rather than the former.
“There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware,” Cerny told Wired additional lately, “which I think is the statement that individuals had been searching for.”
