Our roguelike retrospective series lastly ascends to Spelunky

From roguelike to roguelite.

More than the previous year or so, we’ve tackled the subject of roguelikes in quite severe depth, with a couple of specific specialist guests, all at the behest of show patrons who have great taste in genres.

This week, we conclude our journey (as effectively as our request obligation to patron Andrew Duff—thanks, Andrew!) by tackling the post-Mystery Dungeon facet of the console roguelike. This trek leads us all the way to Derek Yu’s Spelunky, at which point the roguelike stops getting the roguelike and becomes rather the roguelite. Completely unique, sincere!

With the genre explored quite completely, this will be the final time we’ll speak about roguelikes. Till, of course, the subsequent time the subject comes up.
