To say Anthem had a shaky start would be a massive understatement. EA’s answer to wildly successful titles like Destiny and The Division suffered from a lack of end-game content and a bevy of other issues that saw the game receive a vocal public lashing.
Player woes aside, Anthem’s developers have been plugging away at new content that comes in the form of Patch 1.3 and the new Cataclysm event. Along with a host of tweaks and changes, Cataclysm introduces new end-game story missions which players can access through the Expedition screen after completing the “Incursion” mission in the story.
Along with the new story missions, Patch 1.3 is bringing a range of quality of life improvements to the game. Among the most significant changes is the introduction of Inversions, which change “the way your Javelin interacts with the environment.” Several changes to the game’s Luck, Weapons and Difficulty have also been implemented, which should lead to a more balanced experience.
It’s great to see Anthem finally receive some new content, but I have to wonder if it will be enough to improve the player count. As we’ve seen in the past, it’s hard to bring a game back from the brink of doom.
